About

John Dobson

John Dobson is the sole shareholder and director of J R Dobson Advisory Limited.  John recently retired from the Hamilton office in June 2018 after a long career with PwC, and its antecedent firms, as a partner and leading up to his retirement as Executive Director.

During over 30 years at PwC John specialised in financial management and advisory services. These were for a wide range of private, corporate and public sector clients. He has a particular interest in valuation, business sales and dispute resolution.

John left PwC to focus on litigation support work, especially shareholder and relationship property disputes. His involvement leading the team at PwC Business Sales has given him the ability to apply practical consideration to valuation issues. This is based on the many actual transactions he has been involved in over the years.

During the last 25 years John has given expert evidence in a large number of cases in the Family Court and High Court. He has also appeared as expert in a number of arbitrations and mediations. John prides himself with the statistic that over 90% of the disputes he is involved in settle out of court.

John is married to Louise, has three adult children and is a keen golfer and trout fisherman. He is chairman of the Hamilton Gardens Trust responsible for overseeing the development of the iconic Hamilton Gardens and was appointed a companion of the Queens service order in January 2021 for his many years service to people with disabilities as trustee and chairman LIFE Unlimited a successful provider to the disability sector.
